{"id":904,"date":"2012-07-12T14:51:06","date_gmt":"2012-07-12T14:51:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=904"},"modified":"2012-07-12T14:56:19","modified_gmt":"2012-07-12T14:56:19","slug":"three-sweaters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=904","title":{"rendered":"Three Sweaters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A week or so ago, I realized that I have been knitting for<em>\u00a050 years<\/em>. \u00a0I don&#8217;t really know if it&#8217;s this year, or last year, or next year, since I&#8217;m a bit fuzzy on exactly how old I was when my grandmother taught me. But it is somewhere near my\u00a0<em>half<\/em>&#8211;<em>centennial of knitting<\/em>&#8230;.my\u00a0<em>golden jubilee<\/em>. \u00a0 I need a celebration!<\/p>\n<p>What would make a better celebration than knitting a project, or projects, that are truly captivating&#8230;. enthralling&#8230;.\u00a0<em>compelling<\/em>&#8230;. not to mention beautiful!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m already knitting one that has kept me happily intrigued for a couple of months now. \u00a0It is a pattern by &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/people\/nadita\">Nadita<\/a>&#8221; called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/soo-feminine\">Soo Feminine<\/a>.&#8221; \u00a0It is a fun short row technique called &#8220;swing knitting,&#8221; which has been quite popular in Germany for some time and is certainly taking off in popularity here now too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Soo-Feminine-Swing-Knitted-Jacekt.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Soo Feminine Swing Knitted Jacekt\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Soo-Feminine-Swing-Knitted-Jacekt.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"396\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This might be even more fun to knit than it is to wear! \u00a0But I won&#8217;t know that until I finish!<\/p>\n<p>Another project jumped into my arms while I was visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrisville.com\/\">Harrisville Designs<\/a> on my recent trip to New Hampshire: a Vivian Hoxbro kit! \u00a0All of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.viv.dk\/English\/\">Vivian Hoxbro&#8217;s<\/a> kits, which use Harrisville&#8217;s &#8220;New England Shetland,&#8221; were on sale for 30% off original prices! \u00a0I love Vivian Hoxbro! \u00a0Her designs are flattering on me, and the knitting is<em>\u00a0fun,\u00a0<\/em>involving color changes and multi-directional knitting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Vivian-Hoxbro-annjacket_medium.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Vivian Hoxbro annjacket_medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Vivian-Hoxbro-annjacket_medium.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This design is called &#8220;Ann&#8221; and can be knit as a jacket or vest. \u00a0I&#8217;m doing the jacket in the purply\/plum colorway shown on the vest above.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Alice-Starmore-Mary-Tudor-full-view.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Alice Starmore Mary Tudor full view\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Alice-Starmore-Mary-Tudor-full-view.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"448\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And lastly, there is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.virtualyarns.com\/\">Alice Starmore<\/a>, queen of color! \u00a0This is her &#8220;Mary Tudor&#8221; design. \u00a0What I love about it (aside from the obvious, duh!)&#8211; \u00a0all her designs are a masterful blend of colors on a design that perfectly balances the horizontal-ness of the knitting and color changing with a strong vertical-ness to flatter the body&#8211;but as I was saying, what I\u00a0<em>love<\/em>\u00a0about this particular jacket is the button band and collar, which depart somewhat from traditional Shetland design. \u00a0I think those two details make this sweater absolutely elegant! \u00a0 \u00a0Decades ago I knitted her Oregon cardigan in the blue colorway. \u00a0It is probably my most precious handknitted item.<\/p>\n<p>Aren&#8217;t all these sweaters\u00a0<em>beauties<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Soo Feminine&#8221; and the &#8220;Ann Jacket&#8221; are on the needles now. \u00a0The yarn for &#8220;Mary Tudor&#8221; has arrived and I&#8217;ve been sighing and moaning over all the little balls of precious Shetland wool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/2012-07-09-10.43.411.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"2012-07-09 10.43.41\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/2012-07-09-10.43.411.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"418\" height=\"560\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>But the pattern book has not arrived.<\/em>\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t you know I have almost all of Starmore&#8217;s books, but not<em>\u00a0Tudor Roses<\/em>. \u00a0Ugh! I cannot believe I&#8217;m one of the suckers who paid over $100 for a knitting pattern book. \u00a0I had to do a lot of justifying to make peace with that. \u00a0You know the rationalizations, I&#8217;m sure! \u00a0It&#8217;s less than therapy, it&#8217;s better than some other addictions, it&#8217;s feeding my creative spirit&#8230;etc&#8230;etc&#8230;\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0it&#8217;s part of my golden jubilee celebration!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A week or so ago, I realized that I have been knitting for\u00a050 years. \u00a0I don&#8217;t really know if it&#8217;s this year, or last year, or next year, since I&#8217;m a bit fuzzy on exactly how old I was when my grandmother taught me.
