into Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I post this it is now several days into spring, and the weather has only gotten colder! \u00a0It&#8217;s been grey with high winds and horizontal rain. \u00a0I&#8217;ve been curled up down below knitting, while Bob has been standing out in the wind and rain at the helm, steering us ever northward. \u00a0The ICW in Georgia is very shallow so we can only move from shortly before high tide until shortly after high tide. \u00a0When the winds and currents are against us it&#8217;s not worth trying! \u00a0Hopefully tomorrow we will se a bit Savannah in sun with warm temperatures! \u00a0That&#8217;s what the weather predicts and I&#8217;m holding to it!<\/p>\n<p>On the first day of spring we spent the morning walking the streets of Fernandina, while a dense fog had <em>Pandora<\/em> and various other transient boats lost in the mist.\u00a0 It was perfectly clear on shore, but dense as pea soup out in the harbor.<\/p>\n<p>Fernandina really is a beautiful southern town!\u00a0Here are some of the lovely houses we saw along our walk. \u00a0I think this house might be the largest house in town&#8211;certainly the largest on our walk. \u00a0It is now an inn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_0338.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3288\" alt=\"IMG_0338\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_0338.jpg\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_0338.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_0338-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a>This house was fascinating from all directions! \u00a0It was hard to choose just one photo, but the view of this hand hewn porch won.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_0332.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3289\" alt=\"IMG_0332\" or doors of any kind. \u00a0A beautiful entrance to a house is just SO inviting! \u00a0And there were plenty of houses in Fernandina that just begged me to come sit on the porch or take a look through the front door. \u00a0I managed to refrain&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/IMG_0323.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" positively heavenly with mock orange shubs blooming at several houses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a email and found a comment from Marjorie recommending that I make sure to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bristlythistle.com\/\">Bristly Thistle<\/a>, the embroidery shop right in Fernandina!\u00a0 Yikes!\u00a0 I am so disappointed that I <i>did<\/i> miss it!\u00a0 By the time I was reading Marjorie\u2019s comment, we had dropped our mooring and were headed to Cumberland Island.\u00a0 If we went back we\u2019d have to give up our visit to Cumberland.\u00a0 It was not an easy decision for me, but I also knew I\u2019d already tortured Bob for quite some time during my visits to all the pretty shops in the center of Fernandina.\u00a0 Well, Bristly Thistle is on my list for next time.\u00a0 I won\u2019t make that mistake twice!<\/p>\n<p>Just to give you an idea of shopping hell for Bob: \u00a0this shop had curiosities, vintage items and antiques. \u00a0I had a ball&#8230;..Bob, not so much&#8230; \u00a0now I&#8217;ve got ideas for what I can do with all my shells.<\/p>\n<p 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By mid-afternoon we had anchored off \u00a0Cumberland Island and were headed ashore in the dinghy. \u00a0All in all, it was a glorious first day of spring!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3-22-15a-022.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3303\" alt=\"3-22-15a 022\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3-22-15a-022.jpg\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3-22-15a-022.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3-22-15a-022-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We left just after sunrise on Sunday morning in order to take advantage of the rising tide.\u00a0While we travel through Georgia we will only have 4 or 5 hours a day, just a couple of hours on either side of high tide, to make our way.\u00a0 At low tide the Intra Coastal Waterway here is too shallow for <i>Pandora<\/i>.\u00a0 So we will move while we can, and then stop each day to await the next high tide during daylight hours.\u00a0 There are no towns on our route, so we will have several days of quiet passage and peaceful anchorages in the salt marshes.\u00a0 The landscape is beautiful here, and there are still dolphins following our wake, and lots of beautiful shore birds.<\/p>\n<p>Arctic terns are following us quite closely at our stern. \u00a0They are flying just about eye level with us, and at the same speed we are going. \u00a0It&#8217;s fascinating to see a bird in flight this closely. \u00a0Today I saw one bird cross its legs and rub them together like he was scratching his legs!
