{"id":3108,"date":"2015-01-29T14:29:13","date_gmt":"2015-01-29T14:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=3108"},"modified":"2015-01-29T14:36:17","modified_gmt":"2015-01-29T14:36:17","slug":"still-not-tropical","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=3108","title":{"rendered":"Still Not Tropical!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s still a bit chilly down here at the top of the Gold Coast of Florida.\u00a0 Bob keeps posting photos on Facebook, saying how cold we are, and you can imagine the responses from friends living in New England!\u00a0 They are <em>NOT<\/em> sympathetic!<\/p>\n<p>However, we <em>are<\/em> cold!\u00a0 Try living outside in 50-degree temps with near gale force winds. \u00a0There is no going inside for the day when you are under way; you simply must stand in the chilly gale in order to steer the boat and navigate.\u00a0 Then after 12 \u2013 14 hours of this you can go down below which is the same chilly temperature, but at least without wind, and try to warm up.\u00a0 In the long run we get into bed each night as cold as we\u2019ve been all day, and get up each morning still cold.\u00a0 Oh!\u00a0 And I should mention that at least half the days onboard there is no hot water, so I also have to wash up with 50-degree water in my tiny 50-degree head (boat-ese for bathroom).\u00a0 It\u2019s not all bliss down here!<\/p>\n<p>But I admit it looks pretty blissful&#8230;.Pandora on a mooring in Vero Beach&#8230;.she&#8217;s the boat at center in the distance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_00921.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3112\" alt=\"IMG_0092\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_00921.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_00921.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_00921-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But the sea life, the birds and the plants don\u2019t seem to be suffering.\u00a0 We still see dolphins playing around us every single day as if life is very good indeed!\u00a0 Yesterday Bob missed the most exciting photo opportunity of this year. We were several miles offshore, sailing from Ft. Pierce to Lake Worth, and at one point we passed a giant sea turtle!\u00a0 It was right near the boat! The turtle\u2019s shell was almost 5 feet in diameter, and his head was like a cantaloupe!\u00a0 Bob said he raised his head and looked right at <em>Pandora<\/em>!\u00a0 I missed this auspicious moment because I was in a stugeron&#8211; induced fog due to always being seasick when we are offshore!<\/p>\n<p>Such lush ivy growing on a wonderful tile. \u00a0The climate is certainly mild enough for tiles outside!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0085.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3113\" alt=\"IMG_0085\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0085.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0085.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0085-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Doesn&#8217;t this palm frond make a lovely headdress for Bob?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0091.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3114\" alt=\"IMG_0091\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0091.jpg\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0091.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0091-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Every year Bob and I plant a window box of herbs and flowers that becomes my little garden onboard.\u00a0 It\u2019s my one little connection to life on land.\u00a0 This year I could not get to my favorite nursery in Ft. Pierce, so I\u2019ve had to make do with plants from the Lowes that was right on the bus route in Vero. \u00a0I\u2019ve got a small mint and parsley plant and two red geraniums.\u00a0 I hope they will thrive as well as the plants in previous years.\u00a0 This little bit of green and red makes me so happy!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0093.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3115\" alt=\"IMG_0093\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0093.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0093.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_0093-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I need to knuckle down on my little landscape tapestry.\u00a0 Time is growing short if I am to finish this in time to send it off to Scotland for an exhibit of miniature tapestries called \u201cPostcards from Home.\u201d\u00a0 First it will travel to New Hampshire where it will be boxed up with other tapestries before it goes on its journey across the Atlantic.\u00a0 Doing this piece has made me realize that I\u2019d like to do a series of miniatures based on the changing scenery we find as we head south each winter.\u00a0 It will be a nomad\u2019s view of winter along the US East Coast.\u00a0 But first, I need to stop weaving\/unweaving and just finish #1 of this series!\u00a0 At this point I am not ready to photograph it!\u00a0 It still has so much that disappoints me\u2026.hopefully soon it will be looking better.<\/p>\n<p>And I\u2019m making good progress on the Carol Sunday sweater, \u201cFor Irene.\u201d\u00a0 There was a glitch with the sleeves, but once again, Carol came to my rescue very quickly.\u00a0 I had gotten an email ages ago saying there was a corrected version of the pattern\u00a0available with a link .\u00a0 When I followed the link and downloaded the new pattern I really couldn\u2019t see any differences between the two, but I figured I just wasn\u2019t looking carefully enough.\u00a0 Well, it seems I have two copies of the un-corrected pattern.\u00a0 Carol very nicely sent me the corrected pattern as an attachment.\u00a0 It does mean that I had knitted most of a sleeve where I kept fudging the lace pattern in order to get it centered.\u00a0 I have set that aside to knit the correct version and am now nearing the end.\u00a0 I will then rip out the first sleeve and knit it again.\u00a0 If I can just make some good progress on my little tapestry I will get this sweater done in no time!\u00a0 And if it does get done soon I\u2019ll be wearing it too!<\/p>\n<p>Bob and I vacuum packed our down coats and wool sweaters about a week ago.\u00a0 We regret that but haven\u2019t yet taken the plunge to dig them out.\u00a0 We did UN-vacuum seal one of our blankets though since we\u2019ve been very cold at night after all the long hours of standing in the wind and chill each day. That means we hae 3 lightweight blankets on us at night!
