{"id":1944,"date":"2013-04-23T13:23:14","date_gmt":"2013-04-23T13:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=1944"},"modified":"2013-04-23T13:31:43","modified_gmt":"2013-04-23T13:31:43","slug":"rainy-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=1944","title":{"rendered":"Rainy Monday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, it is a rainy Monday, our first rain since leaving the US\u00a0way back in January.<\/p>\n<p>It has rained non-stop all day today, and it&#8217;s been very lovely here in Man O&#8217; War Cay. \u00a0The locals told us that April can be quite wet, just like New England. \u00a0No wonder it is so lush here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-045-Copy.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1947\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-045-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-045-Copy.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-045-Copy-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-018.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1959\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-018.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-018-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We wandered through the town, along wide paved walkways just wide enough for golf carts to pass. \u00a0Lots of those here, and very few cars. \u00a0The cars that are here are models we don&#8217;t see in the US&#8230;.cute miniature vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>We saw a border of amaryllis planted along a fence. \u00a0They were in various stages from spent to full open and still in bud. \u00a0They were a bright, single red&#8230;.just like we force at Christmas back at home. \u00a0There are lots of things that we&#8217;d call houseplants, growing as perennial foundation plants here: \u00a0Kalenchoe, &#8220;Wandering Jew,&#8221; coleus, vinca. \u00a0We even saw the biggest poinsettia we&#8217;ve ever seen!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-046-Copy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1948\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-046-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-046-Copy.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-046-Copy-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But there are also things we cannot identify. \u00a0Some vines with huge purple trumpet like flowers, some lily-like flowers, and a huge tree covered with bright yellow flowers! Androsia is a local company (on Andros Island) where women make traditional batik on various weights of fabric. \u00a0There is light weight garment cotton, heavy canvas for making bags or upholstery, and some mid-weight cotton for household linens. \u00a0The batik motifs are all Bahamian: shells, turtles, hibicus, sharks&#8230;. \u00a0It was hard to stay on task, but I think I did a good job of getting some fabrics to make presents and some small presents for my nieces! \u00a0A little something for me too!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-037.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1953\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-037.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-037.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-037-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then there was the Albury Sail Shop, where women from the Albury family make duffel bags and every other kind of imaginable bag. \u00a0There were more bags than you can possibly imagine under one roof! \u00a0The Alburys have been making bags for three generations now. \u00a0Again, what a hard choice for me! \u00a0But I did pick a good one!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-041-Copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1954\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-041-Copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-041-Copy.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-22-13a-041-Copy-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The woman on the left is the Albury who now runs this shop. \u00a0Her grandmother started the shop 60 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>So what to do on a rainy Monday afternoon? \u00a0Dig out some more of my stash and start another knitting project! \u00a0I skeined this mystery yarn, rigging up a hank holder between two portholes in the galley. \u00a0I know it is merino but the tag is long gone, so I don&#8217;t know who dyed it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-23-13a-003.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1956\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-23-13a-003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-23-13a-003.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/4-23-13a-003-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I just downloaded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designsbyromi.com\/index.htm\">Romi Hill&#8217;s<\/a> &#8220;7 Small Shawls,&#8221; which are named after the stars in the Pleides. \u00a0I will start with &#8220;Celaeno&#8221;&#8230;.very feminine and pretty. \u00a0It will be a gift. \u00a0The directions for this shawl call for over 900 size 6 beads, but I have decided to omit this since I think the shawl will be uncomfortable heavy with so many beads. \u00a0On the other hand it sure would sparkle like the night sky with beads knitted into it&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/7cover_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1945\" title=\"Basic RGB\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/7cover_small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, it is a rainy Monday, our first rain since leaving the US\u00a0way back in January.
