{"id":701,"date":"2012-01-08T20:23:52","date_gmt":"2012-01-08T20:23:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=701"},"modified":"2012-01-08T20:31:53","modified_gmt":"2012-01-08T20:31:53","slug":"january-the-selfish-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=701","title":{"rendered":"January, the Selfish Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As it should be. \u00a0Surely I&#8217;m not the only person who thinks this. \u00a0Almost every year of my adult life I have taken the month of January to recharge myself. \u00a0In fact, for many years, the day after Christmas was a day when I&#8217;d gather all my knitting and weaving journals from past years and look through all of them, enjoying the inspiration and letting ideas for my own work wash over me.<\/p>\n<p>January is also my birthday month, so I get special dispensation to be selfish. \u00a0I can put my post-holiday inspiration and project-planning into action by spending money on myself! \u00a0There you go!<\/p>\n<p>This year I&#8217;m struggling to finish a shawl for a friend during my selfish January. \u00a0This shawl should have been done back in November, but as I mentioned in another post, life has thrown some difficult stuff at me lately. \u00a0I&#8217;m a bit behind schedule. \u00a0I&#8217;m not worried though&#8230;.I don&#8217;t mind having a selfish February if it comes to that.<\/p>\n<p>Back in October, I bought four balls of Crystal Palace &#8220;Mini Mochi&#8221; from my local yarn store (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.knitmap.com\/locations\/the-stitchery\">The Stitchery<\/a> in Pearl River, NY) for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/lalas-simple-shawl\">&#8220;Lala&#8217;s Simple Shawl&#8221;<\/a> (available as a free download on Ravelry). \u00a0Just moments ago I bound off! \u00a0I hope I have just enough left to make a crocheted scalloped edge around the shawl. \u00a0If not, I have some Jaggerspun &#8220;Zephry&#8221; in a deep warm red that should fill the bill. \u00a0I&#8217;d prefer the edge to be Mini Mochi, but it will be what it will be!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Yarn-mini-mochi.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-702 aligncenter\" title=\"Yarn mini mochi\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Yarn-mini-mochi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I think these colors will suit my friend perfectly! She wears a lot of reds\/greens\/browns. \u00a0The LaLa shawl is simple and not too lace-y so the pattern doesn&#8217;t distract from the wonderful color changes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/LaLa-Shawl-mini-mochi-3-crop.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-704 alignleft\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/LaLa-Shawl-mini-mochi-3-crop.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"249\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not blocked yet, so don&#8217;t judge it too harshly! \u00a0I&#8217;m not feeling confident about that little ball of extra yarn making it all the way around the shawl&#8230;.but at least I have the &#8220;Zephyr&#8221; as back up!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-align: left;\">Now to get back to Selfish January&#8230;.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"text-align: left;\">Here&#8217;s what has called to me&#8230;.another shawl that is a free download on Ravelry. \u00a0The shawl is called Revontuli which is Finnish for Aurora Borealis, which is Latin for Northern Lights. \u00a0The designer is <\/span><a style=\"text-align: left;\" href=\"http:\/\/muro.vuodatus.net\/\">AnneM <\/a><span style=\"text-align: left;\">and you can get the pattern from either her site (follow the link) or here on\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"text-align: left;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/revontuli--huivi-northern-lights\">\u00a0Ravelry<\/a><span style=\"text-align: left;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Revontuli-shawl.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-714 aligncenter\" title=\"Revontuli shawl\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Revontuli-shawl.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here&#8217;s the thing about this shawl. \u00a0It looks best with a yarn that has <em>l-o-n-g<\/em> color runs. \u00a0The designer shows this shawl made with a yarn called &#8220;Aade Long 8\/2 artistic.&#8221; I did a search and discovered that it&#8217;s not available in the US, but is easily found on ebay and from an online shop in Germany, as well as from some individuals in Estonia. \u00a0Selfish me&#8230;. I&#8217;m getting<em> two<\/em> colorways! \u00a0&#8220;Pink\/Brown&#8221; and &#8220;Red.&#8221; \u00a0They are both coming from Estonia, although from two different vendors. \u00a0Let&#8217;s see
