{"id":5732,"date":"2019-03-02T12:27:35","date_gmt":"2019-03-02T17:27:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=5732"},"modified":"2019-03-02T12:27:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-02T17:27:35","slug":"silence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=5732","title":{"rendered":"Silence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s March 2nd,\u00a0 and I&#8217;m sitting at my kitchen table watching the snow fall on an already white landscape.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got a white on white tablecloth under my laptop and a vase of bright yellow tulips\u00a0that reminds me that the landscape will soon be full of vibrant colors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_2171-e1551542261722.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5735\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_2171-e1551542261722.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2171\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Where did the time go between November and now?\u00a0 I can&#8217;t answer that well, but I can report that a lot of creative juices have been flowing, even if they were mostly in the form of inspiration from <em>other people&#8217;s<\/em> creative output!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been silent for a few months now, letting it all sink in.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s been fairly quiet here.\u00a0 There is nothing like a blanket of snow to muffle the noise of life.\u00a0 I live on a quiet street where only three other families drive up this road.\u00a0 And let me tell you!&#8211;winter here is a lot quieter than when Bob and I are living on a boat in the Caribbean. The wind blows night and day there, and it&#8217;s noisier than you&#8217;d imagine!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been good to be at our land home this winter.\u00a0 It has given us time to spend with our newborn grand-twins, Rhett and Emme.\u00a0 Along with their older sister Tori, our son and his wife now have a trio of kids whose initial letters in their names happen to create the word <em>TRE<\/em> (Tori, Rhett, Emme).\u00a0 They are quite the threesome!<em> Tre O5borns<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8470-e1551542977980.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5758\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8470-e1551542977980.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-8470\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8470-e1551542977980.jpg 3264w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8470-e1551542977980-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8470-e1551542977980-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8470-e1551542977980-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3264px) 100vw, 3264px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A recount of what I&#8217;ve been doing since November might appear a bit schizoid as well as boring.\u00a0 So many of us who love textiles work with it in numerous ways.\u00a0 So I&#8217;ve been spinning some muga silk on my new Jensen wheel, and weaving on a new-to-me Baby Wolf\u00a0 combby (not going well), and knitting (also a failed project), and struggling with a new Torchon pattern in bobbin lace.\u00a0 I hope these setbacks and failed projects mean I am growing in these areas.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a long time since I&#8217;ve had a knitting failure.\u00a0 The mishap is in the way the fabric drapes and the sweater fits&#8211;or rather, doesn&#8217;t fit.\u00a0 It is huge!\u00a0 I&#8217;m determined to master my quirky computer loom, but I&#8217;m not there yet.\u00a0 I think I have worked out all the mis-steps on the Torchon pattern , and for that I have to thank Jill from my lace group.\u00a0 And so&#8230;.I lurch on&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some photos of the deflected weave project that I&#8217;m using as my first project on the Baby Wolf combby. This was the first experiment.\u00a0 I used the same two colors for weft that are in the warp. It&#8217;s a lovely pattern, but a bit boring colorwise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1944-e1551543368200.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5755\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1944-e1551543431732.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1944\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the 2nd experiment I decided to increase the color play.\u00a0 There are seven colors of weft weaving through the two color warp.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1986-e1551543531705.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5752\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_1986-e1551543531705.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1986\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;m experimenting with two colors of weft that are different from the two colors in the warp.\u00a0 I think I will like it best.\u00a0 It&#8217;s on hold for now because I&#8217;m having so many problems with the combby.\u00a0 It is often a &#8216;two steps forward, one step back&#8217; kind of process.\u00a0 Surely it&#8217;s got to get more reliable!<\/p>\n<p>Once I have my dobby problems under better control I will write up a bit about this pattern.\u00a0 It is Janney Simpson&#8217;s design that was published about two years ago in &#8220;Handwoven&#8221; magazine.<\/p>\n<p>Bob is making great use of our time home this winter.\u00a0 He is tackling a number of projects that have been on my wish list for a while.\u00a0 He asked me to prioritize what I wanted done, and I chose having him build a taka dai as the #1 item.\u00a0 He is making two because, like weavers, if you&#8217;re going to make one, you might as well make at least another!\u00a0 These are from Rodrick Owen&#8217;s shop drawings, and they are nearing completion!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8492-e1551544119595.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5763\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8492-e1551544119595.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-8492\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8492-e1551544119595.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8492-e1551544119595-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a complicated project.\u00a0 Just look at all the details Bob had to work through.\u00a0 Although he&#8217;s had a rather long hiatus from building anything of this magnitude, he got right back into it like a pro.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_2062-e1551544624252.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5743\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_2062-e1551544624252.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2062\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He had to make 40 koma for two taka dai, and each koma has nine pins in it.\u00a0 They all fit together beautifully!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8490-e1551544368393.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5761\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8490-e1551544368393.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-8490\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8490-e1551544368393.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8490-e1551544368393-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8491-e1551544516414.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5762\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8491-e1551544516414.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-8491\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8491-e1551544516414.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG-8491-e1551544516414-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bob made the tori out of zebra wood.\u00a0 The completed braid moves over the tori and winds onto the cloth beam at the back of the taka dai as the braiding progresses.
