on the Fly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Are you old enough to remember this lyric?\u00a0 &#8220;July, she will fly&#8221;&#8230;\u00a0 That&#8217;s what this month has been doing.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a month jam-packed with the fullness of a summer on steroids.\u00a0 (By the way, that phrase is from &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PYD-DIggB2k\">April, Come She Will<\/a>&#8220;).\u00a0 And ha!\u00a0 It&#8217;s now August 3rd.<\/p>\n<p>First, there are the gardens and the farmers&#8217; market.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve waited almost a year for cukes to be ready for making pickles again.\u00a0 This year I&#8217;m starting pickle season with sweet pickles spiked with hot, dried piquin peppers from France.\u00a0 It&#8217;s my version of hot pepper jelly in a pickle.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG-1224-e1532535016564.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5540\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG-1224-e1532535016564.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-1224\" width=\"350\" height=\"467\" 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The gardens are flourishing in the mild summer.\u00a0 We seem to have stolen all the best qualities of summer from England and left them parched and dry as our Arizona desert.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1309-e1532535075919.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5539\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1309-e1532535075919.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1309\" width=\"402\" height=\"536\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1208-e1532535131266.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5525\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1208-e1532535131266.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1208\" width=\"402\" height=\"536\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m picking bouquets of daisies and globe thistle now, instead of roses.\u00a0 And tiny bouquets of Legion of Honor poppies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1305-e1533319648272.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5536\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1305-e1533319648272.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1305\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yet\u00a0no summer is complete without its downside.\u00a0 Last year it was voles.\u00a0 This year the deer are getting a bit too comfortable coming right up to the house, eating my window boxes!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Two are unharmed and looking great!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1307-e1532535204997.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5537\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1307-e1532535204997.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1307\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">While the other two have been a great treat for deer.\u00a0 Grrr&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1308-e1532535299784.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5538\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1308-e1532535299784.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1308\" width=\"501\" height=\"376\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few weeks back, I celebrated finishing two tapestries that have been languishing in my stash for a couple of years&#8211;one actually longer than that.\u00a0 Well now they are &#8216;finished.&#8217;\u00a0 If you&#8217;re a weaver you know the adage, &#8220;it ain&#8217;t finished &#8217;til it&#8217;s (wet) finished.&#8221;\u00a0 In tapestry, there is no wet finishing, but there is a tedious process that needs to happen before the piece is truly finished.\u00a0 Here are a few photos of my process.<\/p>\n<p>First you have to tack all those lose warp threads to the back.\u00a0 This is my least favorite task.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1140-e1532535396910.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5511\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1140-e1532535396910.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1140\" width=\"402\" height=\"536\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1141-e1532535493542.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5512\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1141-e1532535493542.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1141\" width=\"401\" height=\"535\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then the piece can be mounted.\u00a0 I of July brought the birth of our twin grandchildren on Tuesday last week. A tiny girl named Emmeline, and a tinier boy named Rhett, have joined the family.\u00a0 They are preemies, and there were some hurdles, but all is going quite well for both of them. Here are a couple of close ups and then a family shot with their big sister, who is only 18 months.\u00a0 Three under two.\u00a0 Whoa. I have a new loom.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a Baby Wolf with what must be <em>all<\/em> the bells and whistles.\u00a0 It has a second back beam with sectional warping capability.\u00a0 It has a compu-dobby.\u00a0 It can be returned to its traditional weaving function with treadles.\u00a0 It can do anything!\u00a0 I have a deflected double weave warp waiting to go on, but at this point I can&#8217;t envision when that will happen. And my 8S Baby Wolf has gone to live with a member of my current guild.\u00a0 I hope she will enjoy using for years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1197-e1533319389174.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5524\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_1197-e1533319389174.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1197\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have a Jensen 30&#8243; Norwegian style wheel on order.
