{"id":5163,"date":"2017-11-08T15:28:09","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T15:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=5163"},"modified":"2017-11-08T15:28:09","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T15:28:09","slug":"internet-shopping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=5163","title":{"rendered":"Internet Shopping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boy, have I had fun shopping in cyberspace lately.\u00a0 Remember the old days when the &#8216;modern&#8217; thing to do was &#8216;let your fingers do the walking?&#8217;\u00a0 This is lightyears beyond that!<\/p>\n<p>Internet shopping is hardly new, but the wealth of websites devoted to weaving\/spinning\/lace making\/sewing&#8230;.etc&#8230;etc has expanded into a galaxy of\u00a0 wonderful places to shop!<\/p>\n<p>A couple of posts back, pre-christening dress dilemma, I wrote that I had ordered a tape loom on etsy.\u00a0 Well, it arrived!\u00a0 And it was beautifully packaged so that opening the box was like a well choreographed dance.\u00a0 I enjoyed every moment of unpacking this treasure!\u00a0 I hope I can get a warp on it, and figure out how to get it to <em>Pandora<\/em>, now that she sailed away with Bob&#8211;OR rather, Bob sailed away with <em>her<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The woman who made this loom and all the accessories that go with it calls herself Handy<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">WO<\/span>man. What an attention to detail!\u00a0 My loom has images of England and Scotland branded (?)\/burnished (?) into it on all sides, inside and out!\u00a0 The accompanying bag (sold separately) is <em>so<\/em> well made&#8211; it shows the kind of sewing expertise that I am trying to attain in my classes!\u00a0 Just take a look!<\/p>\n<p>Here is the box with the first bit unpacked.\u00a0 She made the drawstring bag that holds some small items you&#8217;ll see shortly!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.22.22-e1510004892451.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5164\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.22.22-e1510004892451.jpg\" alt=\"2017-11-01 19.22.22\" width=\"543\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed the unpacking process and had to document it! The rigid heddle\u00a0is embellished with\u00a0a Tudor rose.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.23.36-e1510004967755.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5165\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.23.36-e1510004967755.jpg\" alt=\"2017-11-01 19.23.36\" width=\"524\" height=\"699\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.23.36-e1510004967755.jpg 525w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.23.36-e1510004967755-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The set came with this little Scottie dog comb&#8211;adorable!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.26.20-e1510005026574.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5167\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.26.20-e1510005026574.jpg\" alt=\"2017-11-01 19.26.20\" width=\"548\" height=\"411\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everything unpacked and displayed on the kitchen table! I wish I&#8217;d gotten a better shot of the London skyline on the side of the loom that is being blocked by the instruction papers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.33.40-e1510005052751.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5168\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.33.40-e1510005052751.jpg\" alt=\"2017-11-01 19.33.40\" width=\"552\" height=\"414\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You need to see a closeup of the tote bag that holds all the pieces with plenty of extra room for other stuff. Note that Handy<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">WO<\/span>man&#8217;s logo has been machine embroidered on the top of the bag.\u00a0 What a great touch!\u00a0 I&#8217;m finding it hard to believe that she can be such a good wood worker as well as such an accomplished seamstress.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.24.52-e1510004995526.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5166\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-01-19.24.52-e1510004995526.jpg\" alt=\"2017-11-01 19.24.52\" width=\"564\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t wait to try weaving on it!<\/p>\n<p>Going back a couple of weeks now:\u00a0 my lace group made a trip to the Windham Textile and History Museum in Willimantic. My friend Mary descends from some mill workers and foremen, so she has particular interest in this time period.\u00a0 She was searching the internet for some mill related information and found the clothing designer Carolyn Denham (of <a href=\"http:\/\/merchantandmills.com\/story\/\">Merchant and Mills<\/a>) who makes timeless yet modern clothing with a nod to the mill workers of years ago.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t resist ordering this pattern, and today I found it in the mailbox! There&#8217;s no time to make it now, but hopefully I can tackle it in the spring when I return.\u00a0 In fact, I hope Mary makes it while I&#8217;m away so she can give me pointers on the process!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-06-16.40.54-e1510005096414.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5169\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-06-16.40.54-e1510005096414.jpg\" alt=\"2017-11-06 16.40.54\" width=\"539\" height=\"539\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-06-16.40.54-e1510005096414.jpg 700w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-06-16.40.54-e1510005096414-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/2017-11-06-16.40.54-e1510005096414-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last week I went to an extra sewing class on a day I don&#8217;t usually go.\u00a0 There were students there I hadn&#8217;t met before, and lots of projects to sigh over.\u00a0 One woman is making her granddaughter a quilt out of large and small panels of woodland animals drawn in a wonderfully graphic style.\u00a0 I love the owl and the fox and think that Tori would love them too!\u00a0 So, of course, I had to go hunting for them, letting my fingers do the walking so to speak, across the keyboard rather than the phone dial of old&#8230;.and they were easy to find! They also arrived in my mailbox today! (The panels are from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fashionablefabrics.com\/thicket-critter-project-panel-on-white-by-gingiber-for-moda-fabrics-48200-11.aspx?gclid=Cj0KCQiArYDQBRDoARIsAMR8s_Ry3AzNK3oTAagm--9_MO_ju666-UQFHMX5VWKasTKDij4LRM3W9pwaAognEALw_wcB\"> fashionable fabrics<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>There are actually four animals in this set.\u00a0 I&#8217;m smitten with the owl and the fox so that&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve photographed.\u00a0 There are also a bear and a bunny.\u00a0 I bought the coordinating fabrics at the top of the photo at a local fabric store in Glastonbury called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.closetohomestores.com\/\">Close to Home<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;d never been there before, but I will be going back in the future.
