{"id":4678,"date":"2017-03-06T16:52:51","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T16:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=4678"},"modified":"2017-03-06T17:02:33","modified_gmt":"2017-03-06T17:02:33","slug":"a-day-at-the-cricket-matches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=4678","title":{"rendered":"A Day at the Cricket Match"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, who knew I&#8217;d ever be talking about cricket&#8211;me, the obsessive weaver\/knitter and somewhat reluctant sailor will now spend a few words on cricket. \u00a0We were given tickets to the West Indian\/English cricket match here on Antigua. \u00a0Antigua has spent a fortune on a modern stadium for this sport so the locals must love this game. \u00a0They have chosen having a stadium over having better water or sewage systems on the island, and certain over having good roads. \u00a0Who am I to say what&#8217;s more important?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-066.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4687\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-066.jpg\" alt=\"3-6-17a 066\" width=\"505\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-066.jpg 700w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-066-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lucky for us that two very nice Englishmen were seated in front of us, who were willing to explain the game and give us some background on cricket. \u00a0It&#8217;s a <em>long<\/em> game. \u00a0We arrived over an hour\u00a0after the start and still saw most of the first half, in which the West Indian team was batting. \u00a0By the end of that half they had scored 258 points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-061.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4680\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-061.jpg\" alt=\"3-6-17a 061\" width=\"509\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-061.jpg 700w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-061-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 509px) 100vw, 509px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I know these photos don&#8217;t do justice to the action. \u00a0All I can say is that I&#8217;ve never seen anyone run as fast all these men do! \u00a0It was more exciting than watching the Olympics just to see them run and catch balls. \u00a0They can catch anything!<\/p>\n<p>I wish I had a photo of our English cricket tutors. \u00a0They were both dressed so perfectly shabby\/chic in their rumpled linen shirts and khaki shorts, finished off with panama hats and shabby boat shoes. \u00a0Their diction was also perfectly Queen&#8217;s English. \u00a0I wouldn&#8217;t be the least bit surprised to learn they are both barristers, or maybe even earls. \u00a0Enchanting gentlemen&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The spectators were very well dressed. \u00a0This has to be quite a big social event for the locals. \u00a0And during the breaks you could buy all kinds of food&#8211;or get your face painted!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-090.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4682\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-090.jpg\" alt=\"3-6-17a 090\" width=\"509\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-090.jpg 700w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-090-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 509px) 100vw, 509px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We left about 4 pm, even though there was more than an hour left in the game. \u00a0Because the game is played in two halves, with only one team able to score during its own half, we have no way to know who won. \u00a0Maybe we can find out from a local when we get ashore later. You do really do have to stay for the whole 8 hours!<\/p>\n<p>Life aboard continues as ever. \u00a0More of our acquaintances have arrived in the harbor so we&#8217;ve had several nice get togethers. As you can see our numbers are growing. \u00a0It&#8217;s hard to all congregate on one boat so we&#8217;ve moved on to larger venues on shore.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-099-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4690\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-099-1.jpg\" alt=\"3-6-17a 099\" width=\"506\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-099-1.jpg 700w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/3-6-17a-099-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Each day brings it own chores, just like home anywhere. \u00a0The last week was focused on fixing broken things aboard <em>Pandora<\/em>, and Bob has made some great headway on those things. \u00a0We are still waiting for some kind of power supply for the SSB, and then that repair will be finished. \u00a0Our friends on <em>Kalunamoo<\/em> came into Falmouth yesterday with a broken windlass. \u00a0You may remember what that is from a couple weeks back when ours died\u00a0as well. \u00a0It&#8217;s the thing that pulls up the anchor since a hundred or more feet of chain is way too much for a mere human to handle. \u00a0It&#8217;s important. \u00a0When it breaks it&#8217;s time to get on that project right away.<\/p>\n<p>This morning we have been busy making water and doing two loads of laundry. \u00a0I hope to get out my small tapestry by noon. \u00a0Tori&#8217;s little sailor sweater is finished and almost ready for giving when I see her at Easter. \u00a0I hope her parents will like it enough to have her wear it through the spring and on cool summer nights.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/1-IMG_3211.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4691\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/1-IMG_3211.jpg\" alt=\"1-IMG_3211\" width=\"485\" height=\"364\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/1-IMG_3211.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/1-IMG_3211-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I almost took a photograph of all our laundry hanging out to dry, but then thought better of it! \u00a0Here&#8217;s a photo of what Bob has to do to get anything out of our freezer for dinner. \u00a0&#8220;You want the WHAT??? She started doing this just after turning 2 months old.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_1066-e1488816185661.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" next month, just before Easter. \u00a0So much to celebrate, and we are too far away to do it properly!<\/p>\n<p>Time to finish sewing that last seam in Tori&#8217;s sailor sweater and then get out my loom&#8230;. maybe Bob will find out who won the cricket match while he is ashore using the internet to order some more things for
