{"id":3513,"date":"2015-07-08T14:39:54","date_gmt":"2015-07-08T14:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=3513"},"modified":"2015-07-08T14:39:54","modified_gmt":"2015-07-08T14:39:54","slug":"memories-of-lace-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=3513","title":{"rendered":"Memories of Lace Weekend&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems like a year ago that I spent a wonderful weekend at the New England Lace Retreat in Wareham, MA&#8211;but it was mid-May&#8211;just 6 weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/FullSizeRender-2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-3514\" alt=\"FullSizeRender (2)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/FullSizeRender-2-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/FullSizeRender-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/FullSizeRender-2-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/FullSizeRender-2.jpg 1632w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My photo makes this house look rather imposing! \u00a0It was actually very inviting, full of lovely antique and vintage furniture. \u00a0Those two large windows on main floor of the front are two generous &#8216;parlours&#8217; where our classes were held. \u00a0To the rear was a large dining room where we had our meals. \u00a0For three meals each day someone would ring a bell to invite us to gather in the dining room. \u00a0My bedroom was on the 3rd floor, the window all the way to the left in the photo. \u00a0Since my room was in the corner it also had a side window with a lovely view of the pond. \u00a0This house sits right on the the bay side of Cape Cod. \u00a0It is quite a spot!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There was a wonderful glass enclosed porch at the right side of the house (not visible in my photograph) where we could congregate to work on our projects. \u00a0Some people chose not to take a class and spent their time on the porch working on projects they brought with them from home.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0During the weekend\u00a0I learned a bit about Idrija lace from Allie Marguccio, who also gave a stunning presentation on her apprenticeship in Slovenia. Not something I can show here, but if you are a lace maker you will know what I mean!<\/p>\n<p>Allie&#8217;s husband Tom makes the bolster pillows which are stuffed with sawdust and are quite heavy, and he turns the pretty bobbins. \u00a0Allie makes the cotton covers. \u00a0You can find them both <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designsbymarguccio.com\/about.htm\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Allie share with us a good <a href=\"http:\/\/idrijska-cipka.moja-kosarica.si\/en\/kategorija\/53\/laces\/\">website<\/a> for ordering traditional Idrija patterns from Slovenia.
