{"id":2878,"date":"2014-08-08T13:51:49","date_gmt":"2014-08-08T13:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=2878"},"modified":"2014-08-13T19:17:30","modified_gmt":"2014-08-13T19:17:30","slug":"and-the-fun-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=2878","title":{"rendered":"And the Fun Continues!&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a month later, and the summer has only gotten better! \u00a0I have been to Convergence in Providence, RI; \u00a0I have finished weaving and sewing the lunch tote and napkin for my guild project, and I have started a tapestry class for some of the members in my state guild. \u00a0All good!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, I have very few photos of Convergence. \u00a0Photos weren&#8217;t allowed at the HGA exhibits. \u00a0The photo I regret <em>NOT<\/em> <em>getting<\/em> most is me standing in front of my tapestry in the gallery exhibit. \u00a0In hindsight I&#8217;m certain the powers-that-be would have let someone take a photo of me in front of my own work, but I didn&#8217;t ask. \u00a0Sigh&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Here is my favorite piece from the gallery exhibit: \u00a0&#8220;She Can&#8217;t See the Forest for the Trees&#8221; \u00a0No, I did not take this photo since photos were not allowed. \u00a0But I can usually find images online, and this image is from <a href=\"http:\/\/jennyschu.blogspot.com\/2013\/03\/she-cant-see-forest-through-trees.html\">Jenny Schu&#8217;s blog<\/a>, where you can read about the processes she used to make this incredible wall hanging! (Wed. grouper&#8217;s first reaction being: \u00a0&#8220;after all these years of weaving on copper looms, why didn&#8217;t any of us think of hanging our tapestries from copper pipe???&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Weaving-She-cant-see-the-forest-for-the-trees.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2879\" alt=\"Weaving She cant see the forest for the trees\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Weaving-She-cant-see-the-forest-for-the-trees.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Weaving-She-cant-see-the-forest-for-the-trees.jpg 480w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Weaving-She-cant-see-the-forest-for-the-trees-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Along with the HGA sponsored exhibits in the Rhode Island Convention Center, there were numerous outside exhibits to see throughout Providence. \u00a0The Complex Weavers&#8217; exhibit at Brown University was quite a highlight for me. \u00a0And the best exhibit of the whole conference for me was the ATA sponsored &#8220;Small Format\/Unjuried&#8221; show on the Feinstein Campus of URI. \u00a0Such wonderful small tapestries that covered the gamut of every subject imaginable! \u00a0Pure fun&#8230;.there were small tapestries of bugs, small self portraits, small landscapes&#8230;.if you can imagine it, it was probably there!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Small-Format-Unjuried-2014.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2916\" alt=\"Small Format Unjuried 2014\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Small-Format-Unjuried-2014-1024x485.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"303\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Small-Format-Unjuried-2014-1024x485.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Small-Format-Unjuried-2014-300x142.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Small-Format-Unjuried-2014.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two friends from the Wednesday Group came to stay with me during Convergence and we made the daily drive to Providence. \u00a0On the last day we drove to Brockton, MA, to the Fuller Craft Museum to see the two shows on display there. \u00a0First was &#8220;Game Changers: \u00a0Fiber Art Masters and Innovators.&#8221; \u00a0What an impressive list of well known fiber artists were on display. \u00a0It was a brilliant show! \u00a0And so was the other exhibit on display, &#8220;Small Expressions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Archie Brennan&#8217;s &#8220;The Lady and the Gypsy&#8221; greets you at the entrance to the &#8220;Game Changers&#8221; exhibit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.08.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2880\" alt=\"2014-07-18 15.24.08\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.08.jpg\" width=\"292\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.08.jpg 292w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.08-175x300.jpg 175w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 292px) 100vw, 292px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Susan Martin Maffei&#8217;s Silk Worm tapestry actually has golden silk cocoons woven into it and is embellished with crocheted caterpillars. \u00a0&#8230;so naturally, the weft is silk.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.43.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2881\" alt=\"2014-07-18 15.24.43\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.43-768x1024.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.43-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/2014-07-18-15.24.43-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have some great photos from &#8220;Small Expressions&#8221; as well, but I neglected to get the names of some of the artists!
