{"id":2820,"date":"2014-05-29T15:35:13","date_gmt":"2014-05-29T15:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=2820"},"modified":"2014-05-29T15:39:59","modified_gmt":"2014-05-29T15:39:59","slug":"thinking-about-knitting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=2820","title":{"rendered":"Thinking about Knitting&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The crazy, colorful huck lace fabric is almost ready for weaving! \u00a0All I have to do is tie on the warp threads to the front beam.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/2014-05-29-11.07.58.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2821\" alt=\"2014-05-29 11.07.58\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/2014-05-29-11.07.58-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/2014-05-29-11.07.58-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/2014-05-29-11.07.58-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>In fact, it would have been done already, if I could just remember how to get the cloth bar back on the loom! \u00a0Actually I can&#8217;t even remember which way the bolts go in to secure the breast beam. \u00a0It&#8217;s been too long since I&#8217;ve used this loom (since before I left New Jersey, two years ago). \u00a0A quick search for the gigantic manual that comes with AVLs didn&#8217;t work. \u00a0(Yes, I know the manual is online, but it&#8217;s so cumbersome to use.) \u00a0I think I&#8217;ll wait &#8217;til Handyman Bob returns home in a few hours.<\/p>\n<p>There is plenty to do down here until that time. \u00a0The place is more disorganized than it&#8217;s ever been, considering I have only lived here for two years!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, I can&#8217;t get my mind off the new pattern book from Jared Flood, Wool People 7. \u00a0There are some gorgeous designs in this book! \u00a0&#8230;.very classic, very chic. \u00a0I might have escaped knowing about it, except that my knitting sister Lesley, who has such exquisite taste, couldn&#8217;t resist the urge to tell me she had seen it and is know knitting &#8220;Pente.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I am in love with Merle&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-7QxBKwJR5Sg\/U2IcZdLx7DI\/AAAAAAAAG4Q\/AtUjgzesUBo\/s1600\/Merle_02_medium2.jpg\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;.and with Arabella.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/media-cache-cd0.pinimg.com\/736x\/c7\/a7\/5d\/c7a75d257895dd394fdc752fcc63a11a.jpg\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wow! \u00a0Right? \u00a0I bought both patterns which are downloads so I had instant gratification. \u00a0Then I began looking at the beautiful colors of Brooklyn Tweed &#8220;Loft&#8221; which is the yarn used for each of the Wool People 7 designs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/brooklyntweed.com\/BTShadeCard.jpg\" width=\"432\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am always looking for a soft wool yarn that I can wear right next to my skin. \u00a0I have yet to find one. \u00a0Models are always shown wearing sweaters right against their skin, and I wonder how they do it. \u00a0Are these sweaters photographed in colder climates (like north of the Arctic Circle) where where everyone is so cold they can&#8217;t feel how itchy the sweaters are? I don&#8217;t know&#8230;.but I&#8217;m hoping I find a good candidate for softness in &#8220;Loft.&#8221; \u00a0I&#8217;m planning a trip to Harrisville in a couple of weeks so I \u00a0look forward to seeing and handling &#8220;Loft&#8221; in person.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile I might cheat and use a Phildar yarn that is 50% lambswool and 50% acrylic. Hopefully in just this color.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pelotesdelaine.com\/674-thickbox_default\/phildar-super-baby-345gr-biche.jpg\" width=\"216\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Which brings me to another question: \u00a0Why is it so hard to find Phildar in the US these days? \u00a0I used to see it all the time in the 80s and 90s. \u00a0I date myself&#8230; Are Americans too in love with natural fibers these days? \u00a0I know I am, but <em>sometimes\u00a0<\/em>I also need just the right yarn to make a beautiful sweater that doesn&#8217;t require a turtleneck to protect me from the itchy wool.<\/p>\n<p>I have so many unfinished sweaters, I&#8217;d be horrified if I counted them, so I know I am a <em>fool<\/em> to be dreaming about making Merle and Arabella right now. \u00a0Still, I am the type of person who dreams about knitting while I&#8217;m weaving, and then dreams about weaving while I&#8217;m knitting. \u00a0Go figure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The crazy, colorful huck lace fabric is almost ready for weaving! \u00a0All I have to do is tie on the warp threads to the front beam.
