{"id":1314,"date":"2012-10-26T14:03:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-26T14:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=1314"},"modified":"2012-10-26T14:07:22","modified_gmt":"2012-10-26T14:07:22","slug":"waiting-out-the-storn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/?p=1314","title":{"rendered":"Waiting out the Storm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I should get a good amount of knitting done while waiting for Hurricane Sandy to pass by. \u00a0Luckily we are far enough south that Sandy will not even be a tropical storm in these parts, much less a hurricane. \u00a0We expect winds of about 35 mph with gusts to 50. \u00a0The downside is that this is a very slow moving system, and we may be stuck in one place for as long as <em>five days<\/em>. \u00a0On the bright side, more time to knit and read&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>As I write, Sandy is wreaking havoc on the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2012\/10\/26\/us-storm-sandy-hurricane-idUSBRE89N16J20121026\"> Bahamas<\/a>. \u00a0Such a beautiful area, always so fragile due to these terrible storms. \u00a0And New England is hunkering down for a combination hurricane\/snow storm that is being dubbed &#8220;Frankenstorm.&#8221; \u00a0Yikes!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m worried about all my family and friends who live from New Jersey up through New England. \u00a0Stay safe, dear ones!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, I knit&#8230;..and knit&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I could not figure out a good way to photograph the finished &#8216;Wingspan&#8217; shawl. \u00a0This is the best I could manage&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.11.35.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1315\" title=\"2012-10-26 09.11.35\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.11.35-1024x764.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"382\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.11.35-1024x764.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.11.35-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;ll be wrapped in it shortly when the temperatures drop tomorrow or Sunday&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is beginning to feel like I&#8217;ve been knitting the &#8220;Ann Jacket&#8221; (Vivian Hoxbro) for half my life. \u00a0It is a <em>lot<\/em> of knitting. \u00a0I am about two-thirds done with the 3rd body panel (out of four total). \u00a0Where am I going to get the energy for that last panel?? \u00a0<em>Then<\/em> there will be all the plain knitting for the sleeves! \u00a0Sheesh! \u00a0I really do want to wear it so I&#8217;ve just got to muddle on. \u00a0It is so cleverly designed, but it is endless knitting&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is the finished back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.01.34.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1316\" title=\"2012-10-26 09.01.34\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.01.34-764x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"686\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.01.34-764x1024.jpg 764w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.01.34-224x300.jpg 224w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.01.34.jpg 1936w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two body panels are knitted together in a very clever fashion by picking up stitches going <em>up<\/em> the left body panel, place a marker, cast on a number of stitches (and the number of stitches cast on here are what will determine the width of this center panel!), place marker, pick up stitches going <em>down<\/em> the second body panel. \u00a0As you knit along this very long row of stitches you decrease on both sides of each market (every other row) so that the knitting begins to form a mitered triangle at the very center back! \u00a0By the time you have only one stitch between the two markers you hold the two ends of your circular needle together (with the wrong sides of the body panels facing outward) and use a third needle to cast off all stitches. \u00a0Yes, that one stitch between the two markers does mean there are an odd number of stitches to be cast off&#8230;. so the last &#8220;K 1 st. from each needle together&#8221; becomes\u00a0&#8220;knit last stitch from one needle together with the last 2 stitches from other needle.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I know&#8230;.it doesn&#8217;t show up very well in such dark yarn! \u00a0Here is a close up view:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.02.18.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1317\" title=\"2012-10-26 09.02.18\" src=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.02.18-764x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"549\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.02.18-764x1024.jpg 764w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.02.18-224x300.jpg 224w, http:\/\/www.argoknot.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/2012-10-26-09.02.18.jpg 1936w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Funny how things often happen when they are meant to happen. \u00a0I have put aside my swing knitted jacket<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/projects\/ozweaver\/soo-feminine\"> &#8220;Soo Feminine&#8221;<\/a> because I wasn&#8217;t happy with the finishing technique. Now, assembling that jacket looks like a perfect use for Hoxbro&#8217;s mitered technique from the &#8220;Ann Jacket!&#8221; \u00a0Should be interesting looking with the long color changes of the Kauni 8\/2 Effektgarn I used&#8230;and I hope will complement the swing knitted shapes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>But<\/em>&#8230;
